2020-2024 L5P Integrated Catch Can / Kit
!!! The catch can requires draining every 5,000 miles and on every oil change. Cold weather will required draining more frequently as well as low drive times. It will fill full of oil/ water mix quicker than you think!!! An extra set of O-rings for the Catch Can are included in case one ever gets cut.
What is this?
We have designed an integrated OEM appearing, universal fit catch can system to remove this oil and water vapor intrusion as well as provides the same exact crank case vacuum draw as the factory to protect the seals of the motor.
Why you need this:
The Gen 1 L5P Duramax Diesel from the factory directs crankcase oil vapor and condensation direclty into the turbo inlet for reburning. This oil vapor once released from the crank case is drawn into the turbo inlet which coats the turbo blades, intercooler and then combines with EGR to form a sticky mixture that adhears to the cylinder heads, valves and then finds its way back into the crancase via natural blow by.
The combined effects of this oil depositing itself on the charge air system
- Increases back pressure on the turbo (higher work load on the turbo to achieve the same psi)
- Decreases intercooler heat rejection capability due to oil coating the intercooler internals
- Combines with EGR form a mixture that sticks on the T-MAP sensor
- Decreases fuel economy from the lower cetane rating of the oil being consumed
Why not just route the CCV to the ground?
- The factory places a small vacuum draw on the crank case to keep the lowest possible differential pressure applied to the engine seals
- Routing to the ground increases the chance of oil coating the underside of the truck, and leaves spots nearly every where you park your truck
- Routing to the ground increases the chance of the hose freezing in cold climates due to the vapor build up in the hose which will teminate the CCV flow path
- Routing to the ground leaves an CCV smell inside the cab nearly all the time
What about freezing?
- We mounted the catch can inside the engine bay with an internal bypass to prevent any chance of catch can blockage or prevention of flow.
- This system was tested in a Nebraska winter of -20F on our 2025 G2 Duramax that is equipped with crank case pressure monitoring from the factory with OEM CCV pressure obtained.
Drain interval?
- We recommend emptying this can on every oil change or 5,000 miles - it will be full
Vehicle runaway protection?
- We have incorporated a internal 1 way check valved baffel that minimizes the amount of oil that could flow from the catch can in the event of vehicle rollover or overfilling.
- If the can becomes full, the internal check valve will fully open and pass CCV flow like normal
Features:
- Plug and play system
- Will not void any warranty
- Quick release for draining
- Maintains factory crank case pressure under all driving conditions

VSE L5P Catch Can
Super high quality and very well engineered. Install was straight forward with the exception of figuring out which fitting to run with the VSE CCV. I initially used the 90 fitting on the front of the block. This configuration works with the stock CCV/oil fill tube location but with the VSE CCV it puts the hose directly above the oil fill tube. Figured out from other pictures that you need to run the 180 degree fitting from the back of the block if you have the VSE CCV. Might be worth making a note in the instructions going forward but really wasn't a big deal. Overall, highly recommend the catch can and ccv combo.
