⚠️ CUSTOM TUNING & VGT RELEARN REQUIRED
CUSTOM TUNING AND A VGT RELEARN ARE REQUIRED FOR THIS CONVERSION.
The 2024+ turbocharger uses a different actuator and control strategy than the original 2020–2023 turbocharger.
Installing this conversion without the appropriate calibration will result in ENGINE POWER REDUCED and multiple DTCs.
Custom tuning purchased from VSE or supplied by a qualified tuner is required for this conversion to operate properly.
A VGT relearn must also be performed after the turbo swap.
Do not install this conversion expecting the factory 2020–2023 calibration to properly control the 2024+ turbocharger system.
⚡ Why Convert to the 2024+ Turbo Architecture?
The stock 2024+ L5P turbo in factory form is NOT an upgrade over the stock earlier L5P turbo.
The advantage is the physical architecture and what it allows us to do once we modify it.
The newer 2024+ turbo gives us a better foundation with additional material and improved packaging in critical areas, allowing us considerably more freedom to modify the:
-
Turbine housing
-
VGT vane cage/nozzle
-
Turbine wheel
-
Compressor cover
-
Center section
-
Oil and water cooling circuits
-
Thrust and journal bearing system
Once those areas are modified around increased airflow and efficiency, the 2024+ architecture becomes a substantially more capable platform.
This is why we developed the G3 Conversion Kit.
Instead of continuing to push the limitations of the original 2020–2023 turbocharger architecture, we're moving these trucks forward to the newer platform.
In our view, these conversion kits make the traditional 2020–2023 style upgraded VGT turbo outdated.
The newer architecture allows us to improve the entire airflow path rather than concentrating on one wheel or one section of the turbocharger.
⚡ Titanium Nitride Coated 64mm Compressor
The G3 64/66 uses our 64mm Titanium Nitride (TiN) coated billet compressor wheel.
The lightweight 11-blade, 11° swept compressor was developed around broad compressor efficiency, airflow, and transient response with 75+ lb/min of airflow capacity.
Titanium Nitride provides an extremely hard, wear-resistant surface with several benefits in a high-speed compressor application:
-
Improved erosion resistance – helps protect the compressor blades from fine particulate entering through the intake.
-
Improved abrasion resistance – provides a significantly harder protective surface than bare aluminum.
-
Leading-edge protection – helps preserve critical compressor blade geometry during extended high-speed operation.
-
Long-term surface protection – helps maintain the machined surface condition of the compressor wheel.
The unmistakable gold TiN finish also makes the G3 compressor instantly recognizable.
⚡ 76 x 66mm 9-Blade Turbine
The turbine side is one of the biggest reasons for moving the earlier trucks to our 2024+ G3 architecture.
The G3 64/66 uses our proprietary:
76mm x 66mm 9-blade turbine
paired with our:
Proprietary 11mm VGT vane cage/nozzle
The combination was developed around:
-
Increased exhaust mass-flow capability
-
Reduced drive-pressure restriction
-
Fast transient response
-
Strong low-RPM response
-
Controlled EGTs under sustained load
-
VGT exhaust-brake authority
The 9-blade turbine also produces the distinct turbine sound that immediately separates the G3 from the factory turbo.
⚡ Why Turbine-Side Flow Matters
Increasing compressor airflow only addresses one side of the turbocharger.
As airflow and fueling increase, the turbine has to process the additional exhaust mass flow without creating excessive exhaust manifold pressure.
If the turbine wheel, vane cage, nozzle area, and turbine housing remain restrictive, installing a larger compressor wheel doesn't eliminate the exhaust-side bottleneck.
This is especially important because high drive pressure cannot be corrected by simply installing a larger compressor wheel.
The newer 2024+ turbine housing combined with our 76 x 66mm 9-blade turbine and proprietary 11mm vane cage gives us considerably more exhaust-side flow capability while retaining the response and exhaust-brake characteristics expected from a VGT.
More compressor airflow is only useful if you can efficiently drive it.
⚡ Proprietary 11mm VGT Vane Cage
Vane cage and nozzle sizing are critical to balancing turbine flow with response.
A restrictive nozzle can limit the benefit of a larger turbine by restricting exhaust mass flow before it ever reaches the turbine wheel.
Our proprietary 11mm vane cage/nozzle was developed specifically around the 76 x 66mm 9-blade turbine.
The combination allows increased exhaust flow while retaining the ability to close the vanes when additional turbine energy, transient response, or exhaust braking is required.
This gives the 64/66 the balance we wanted:
High turbine flow when the engine needs it, strong VGT authority when response or exhaust braking is required.
⚡ 2024+ High-Flow Turbine Housing
One of the biggest advantages of the conversion is the newer 2024+ turbine housing architecture.
The newer housing gives us a better foundation for increasing turbine flow than the original 2020–2023 design.
Combined with the 76 x 66mm 9-blade turbine and proprietary 11mm vane cage, the G3 has substantially increased exhaust-side flow capability while maintaining the transient response required from a tow/street turbo.
This is a major reason the conversion platform works so well.
The turbine housing, vane cage, and turbine wheel are designed to work together, allowing us to address drive pressure across the complete turbine section rather than relying on a compressor-wheel change to make the difference.
⚡ 2024+ High-Flow Pedestal
The conversion includes the 2024+ L5P turbo pedestal, which provides increased exhaust-flow capability compared with the earlier L5P pedestal.
Increasing flow into the turbine inlet eliminates another potential restriction in the exhaust path.
The pedestal, turbine housing, 11mm vane cage, and 76 x 66mm turbine work together as a complete exhaust-side package.
⚡ Newer 2024+ VGT Actuator
The conversion upgrades the truck to the 2024+ L5P VGT actuator.
The newer actuator uses an updated design with improved thermal management and faster operation for controlling vane position.
Because the 2020–2023 truck was never designed to communicate directly with the newer actuator, the conversion includes our VSE CAN conversion harness to provide communication between the vehicle and the 2024+ actuator.
This is also why proper custom tuning and a VGT relearn are mandatory after installation.
⚡ Designed for Towing, Response & Highway MPG
The 64/66 combination was specifically developed around what an L5P actually needs during normal street and towing operation.
The 64mm compressor flows 75+ lb/min, giving it enough airflow to support 650+ RWHP while keeping the rotating assembly lightweight and responsive.
On the exhaust side, the 76 x 66mm 9-blade turbine and 11mm vane cage provide the additional exhaust-flow capacity needed to complement the compressor.
The complete package was developed to:
-
Support 650+ RWHP
-
Maintain fast transient response
-
Reduce drive-pressure restriction
-
Control EGTs during sustained load
-
Provide excellent heavy-towing characteristics
-
Retain strong VGT exhaust braking
-
Maintain excellent highway efficiency
-
Provide factory-like drivability with substantially increased airflow capability
The goal was an extremely efficient street and towing VGT with enough airflow to make serious power.
⚡ Built for Efficiency & Highway MPG
The G3 64/66 was designed to operate efficiently during the conditions where most trucks spend the majority of their lives: daily driving, highway cruising, and towing.
The lightweight rotating assembly improves transient response, while the increased turbine-side flow capability helps reduce the exhaust restriction the engine has to work against.
Reducing unnecessary pumping work while maintaining efficient compressor operation is exactly what we want during steady-state highway driving.
Actual fuel economy will vary with vehicle configuration, load, speed, tires, gearing, elevation, driving style, and calibration, but the 64/66 G3 was deliberately developed as an MPG-friendly, high-efficiency performance turbocharger.
⚡ Upgraded 2024+ Center Section & Bearing System
Another advantage of converting to the newer turbo architecture is the updated center section.
The 2024+ platform incorporates a larger thrust bearing and thrust plate assembly, an updated journal-bearing arrangement, and additional oil/water cooling capability compared with the earlier architecture.
Our G3 receives upgraded:
-
Thrust plate
-
Thrust bearing
-
Journal bearings
These components were selected around the thermal and mechanical loads associated with sustained towing and performance use.
This turbo was developed around real-world sustained operation, not simply short dyno pulls.
