2017–2023 L5P 64/66mm G3 VGT 2024+ Turbo Conversion Kit

The VSE 2017–2023 L5P G3 Conversion Kit brings our latest 2024+ turbocharger architecture to the 2017–2023 L5P Duramax.

The 2024+ turbo platform gives us significantly more freedom in the turbine housing, VGT vane cage/nozzle, turbine wheel, and compressor cover than the original 2017–2023 architecture.

The result is a completely new option for earlier L5P trucks: 64mm TiN-coated compressor, 76 x 66mm 9-blade turbine, proprietary 11mm vane cage, 75+ lb/min airflow, and 650+ RWHP capability packaged around the newer and more efficient 2024+ turbo architecture.

⚡ The 2024+ Turbo Architecture Changes Everything

The introduction of the 2024+ L5P gave us a better foundation to build a high-performance VGT turbocharger.

The newer architecture provides advantages in the areas that matter most when we're trying to increase airflow without destroying response:

  • Turbine housing geometry

  • VGT vane cage and nozzle design

  • Turbine flow capacity

  • Compressor cover geometry

  • Compressor airflow capability

That's why we developed the G3 Conversion Kit.

It allows a 2017–2023 L5P to run our complete 2024+ based G3 turbocharger package rather than continuing to work within the limitations of the original 2017–2023 turbo architecture.

In our view, these conversion kits make the traditional 2017–2023 style upgraded turbo obsolete.

Instead of continuing to modify the older architecture, we're moving the earlier trucks forward to the newer platform and taking advantage of the improvements available in the 2024+ turbine housing, vane cage, turbine, and compressor cover.


⚡ Titanium Nitride Coated 64mm Compressor

At the heart of the G3 is our 64mm Titanium Nitride coated billet compressor wheel.

The lightweight 11-blade, 11° swept compressor was developed around broad compressor efficiency, airflow, and transient response with 75+ lb/min of airflow capacity.

Titanium Nitride provides an extremely hard, wear-resistant surface with several benefits in a high-speed compressor application:

  • Improved erosion resistance – helps protect compressor blades from fine particulate entering through the intake.

  • Improved abrasion resistance – provides a significantly harder protective surface than bare aluminum.

  • Leading-edge protection – helps preserve critical blade geometry during extended high-speed operation.

  • Long-term surface protection – helps maintain the machined surface condition of the compressor wheel.

The unmistakable gold TiN finish also makes the G3 compressor instantly recognizable.


⚡ 76 x 66mm 9-Blade Turbine

A huge part of the advantage of moving to the 2024+ architecture is what we're able to accomplish on the turbine side of the turbocharger.

The G3 uses our proprietary:

76mm x 66mm 9-blade turbine

paired with our:

Proprietary 11mm VGT vane cage/nozzle

The combination was developed around:

  • Increased exhaust mass-flow capability

  • Reduced drive-pressure restriction

  • Fast transient response

  • Strong low-RPM response

  • Controlled EGTs under sustained load

  • VGT exhaust-brake authority

The 9-blade turbine also produces the distinct turbine sound that immediately separates it from the factory turbo.


⚡ Why Turbine-Side Flow Matters

Increasing compressor airflow is only part of building an efficient turbocharger.

As airflow and fueling increase, the turbine has to process the additional exhaust mass flow without creating excessive exhaust manifold pressure.

If the turbine wheel, vane cage, nozzle area, and turbine housing remain restrictive, installing a larger compressor wheel doesn't eliminate the exhaust-side bottleneck.

That is one of the major reasons we moved the G3 conversion package to the 2024+ architecture.

The newer turbine housing combined with our 76 x 66mm 9-blade turbine and proprietary 11mm vane cage gives us substantially more freedom to manage turbine flow while retaining the response and exhaust-brake characteristics expected from a VGT.

More compressor airflow is only useful if you can efficiently drive it.


⚡ Why 64/66mm?

We designed this turbo around what an L5P actually needs on the street and under load.

The 64mm compressor flows 75+ lb/min, providing enough airflow to support 650+ RWHP while keeping the rotating assembly lightweight and responsive.

The 76 x 66mm turbine and 11mm vane cage provide the exhaust-side capacity needed to complement that compressor airflow.

The complete package was developed to:

  • Support 650+ RWHP

  • Maintain fast transient response

  • Control drive pressure

  • Control EGTs during sustained load

  • Provide excellent heavy-towing characteristics

  • Retain strong VGT exhaust braking

  • Maintain excellent highway efficiency

  • Provide factory-like drivability with substantially increased airflow capability

The goal wasn't the largest wheel combination we could fit.

The goal was an extremely efficient street and towing VGT with enough airflow to make serious power.


⚡ Designed for Efficiency & Highway MPG

The G3 was designed to operate efficiently during the conditions where most trucks spend the majority of their lives: daily driving, cruising, and towing.

A lightweight rotating assembly improves transient response, while the increased turbine-side flow capability helps reduce the exhaust restriction the engine has to work against.

Reducing unnecessary pumping work while keeping the compressor operating efficiently is exactly what we want during steady-state highway operation.

Actual fuel economy varies with vehicle configuration, load, speed, tires, gearing, elevation, driving style, and calibration, but the G3 was deliberately developed as an MPG-friendly, high-efficiency performance turbocharger.


⚡ Upgraded Bearing System

The G3 receives upgraded internal components designed for the increased thermal and mechanical loads associated with sustained towing and performance use:

  • Upgraded thrust plate

  • Upgraded thrust bearing

  • Upgraded journal bearings

This turbo was developed around real-world sustained operation, not simply short dyno pulls.
